Healthcare has been an area of concern for modern India . With older diseases making a comeback with potent strains and new diseases developing ever so often, treatment costs have been increasing significantly. With the under-penetrated Health Insurance system in the country, a large percentage of patients find it difficult to undergo health treatment either because they cannot afford treatment costs or because they are not covered under any sort of Health Insurance.

Indian policy-makers have always been faced with the challenge of finding ways to improve the existing situation in the health sector and to make affordable and quality health care accessible to the entire population, which includes the urban as well as rural, poor and vulnerable sections of the society.
